Disclaimer-This map is not intended for use as a navigational chart. We have provided this map with the intentions of sharing some of our knowledge about the creeks and areas that we are familiar with. Any opinions about fishing , boating, camping, directions or anything else is strictly my opinion and endorsed by no one.  I am a 9 time Crappie Classic Qualifier and have been fishing Bear Creek for 15 plus years.  On occasion I have caught Bass and won a few local Bass tournaments.  Catfishing is mainly by jug fishing.  As a rule I am not too good catching Bass, don't like to Catfish, but I can catch Crappie in Bear Creek any day of the year that I choose to go. The reason for all this useless information is for you to consider the source of this information and use it as you see fit.    Back To Top Of Page

General Knowledge- The back end of Bear Creek begins to shallow up to the point that one needs to be cautious while boating in this area.  Usually you won't see many skiers or large house type boats in this area.  Water depths are generally 0 to 20 feet, sometimes more, sometimes less. Bass Crappie and Catfish are plentiful in this area.  Lots of stumps, small and deep drops to hold fish.   Back To Top Of Page

2. Buzzard Roost - Has launch ramp and camping spaces.  Launching from this ramp at certain times of the year can be a challenge navigating to the open waters due to shallow water, however it can be done.  There is bait and tackle available as well as snacks and cold drinks.

3. Good Crappie fishing in this area during the spring beginning in March through May.  this area will have lots of depth changes and Crappie usually will hold along the depth changes.  Along the Creek channel is also a good place to look fro Crappie.  Trolling, drifting or spider fishing can produce good crappie during the spring. I see Bass fishing along the shore lines and I have captured a few good Bass from time to time.  Back To Top Of Page

4. This area of Bear Creek is normally areound 3 to 8 feet in depths and has lots of stumps and underwater brush.  Crappie fishing in this area in the spring is excellent and can produce some good stringers.  Trolling has produced the best for me, but I do a lot of spider fishing in this area as well.  The area, with the exception of the creek, is basically flat with minor depth changes.

5. As you come around the point the creek runs close to the bank and has some deep drop offs.  I have had good success catching Crappie on  top of the drops just off the creek channel.  Lots of stumps and underwater brush will hold crappie all year but especially during the spring months. Depths should be around 10 to 13 feet on top of the creek channel.   Back To Top Of Page

6. Once you pass this point the water depth will be shallow and since I haven't fished much in this area, there's not much I can say about it.  I have occasionally seen other fishermen in these waters, but not regular.  I do know that anywhere below this line one needs to be very careful due to the depth of the waters.  Back To Top Of Page
